Death of Retired Member's Mother

We are saddened to announce that the mother of retired Deputy Chief Jack Schamp passed away on November 1, 2009. Arlene M. Schamp (age 95) was described by Jack as a great mother to him, as well as grandmother, and great grandmother to the family. Jack stated that in the Spring he will bury his mother's ashes next to his father's grave at the Washington National Cemetery.

EDWARD ELLSWORTH SHOEMAKER

Date of Birth: January 5, 1916 Date of Death: September 19, 2009

We learned today that Brother Edward (Ed) E. Shoemaker (age 93) passed away in Silver Spring, MD, on September 19, 2009. Ed had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease in recent years. Ed was appointed to the United States Park Police on January 2, 1947, and retired on February 28, 1959. Ed had been retired for over 50 years, and we are quite sure that he was the oldest living retired Force member. We understand that Ed was a motorcycle officer for the last several years of his career on the Force.
